Monday recap of Ultra Super Exciting Weekend!!!

hello all! Still overworked and underpaid, but thought I’d swing by for some quick recaps. Since we last spoke, I:

1. Rocked all night with Chris, Will and the other Coldplay boys. Their opening acts (yes, multiple) were cool, too. Can’t go wrong with a band whose lead singer references The Flying Burrito Brothers in his banter.

2. Spent a raucous movie night at my kids’ school, watching Kung Fu Panda and learning how to break wood. No, I wasn’t one of the lucky folk picked to actually break wood (I took pictures for the yearbook instead), but I now know how to balance my weight and find the right pitch to grunt at it should I ever in the future think it a good idea to break wood in half with my fist.

3. Caravaned (sort of) with my supersized family to rural Illinois to surprise Sister No. 4 for her birthday party/co-party with niece turning 14 and watch my nephew play in the state championship football semifinals (they lost). Then we trekked back to St. Louis for a supersized Italian dinner and copious wine.

The next morning. Only half of us made it up in time for the walking tour of the riverfront.

4. Stuffed myself, one thrill-seeking son, one birthday girl niece and one recently licensed nephew in the tiny elevator/torture chamber that takes adventurous souls to the top of the Gateway Arch. We were the only ones brave (foolish?) enough to go. It was cool, I’d do it again!

The spot of red in the green here is No. 1 son, firmly on the ground

  1. WoW! What an exciting weekend!
I went up the arch with friends from the TALL Club — it was at the annual convention in 1989. That was a sight to see us scrunched into that arch =)
How did you and your long-lost lementary school BFF find each other again?

    • Re: WoW! What an exciting weekend!
Oh man! That would be a tight fit!
BFF and I reconnected via Facebook. We had lunch today and it was like we’ve stayed in touch all these years. Glad to have her back in my life :)

  2. Great photos. Sounds like an awesome weekend.

  3. Wow! Great weekend, all ’round. Coldplay, kung fu, birthdays, scary-cool arch photos and more!
I’ve sent you a PM about tonight, having lost your email. It appears I will be needing your help reminding the Nerdfighter-in-Chief to answer the interview questions. I started to have minor anxiety issues about it, then remembered that there’s not really anything I can do about it besides continue to email him (done) and send minions after him (if you don’t mind being a minion, that is).

  4. Ooooh that elevator!! I remember it from my own trip, some twenty seven years ago… *shudder*
You *are* brave! Glad you had a fun weekend!

    • yep. I had to be fakebrave for the kids.
*lurch* “this is fun! Isn’t this FUN?!”

      • Heh! You were *far* braver than me. I am so claustrophobic… Of course, that’s an equal phobiatunity ride.
Whether you’ve got acro-, claustr-,agoro-, or elavatoro-phobia, that thing is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat.
If, of course, you weren’t already wedged into it so tightly.
